Sixteen-year-old Cara Lange has been a loner ever since she moved away from her best and only friend, Zoe, years ago. She eats lunch with the other girls from the track team, but they're not really her friends. Mostly she spends her time watching Ethan Gray from a distance, wishing he would finally notice her, and avoiding the popular girls who call her "Choker" after a humiliating incident in the cafeteria.
Then one day Cara comes home to find Zoe waiting for her. Zoe's on the run from problems at home, and Cara agrees to help her hide. With her best friend back, Cara's life changes overnight. Zoe gives her a new look and new confidence, and next thing she knows, she's getting invited to parties and flirting with Ethan. Best of all, she has her BFF there to confide in.
But just as quickly as Cara's life came together, it starts to unravel. A girl goes missing in her town, and everyone is a suspect—including Ethan. Worse still, Zoe starts behaving strangely, and Cara begins to wonder what exactly her friend does all day when she's at school. You're supposed to trust your best friend no matter what, but what if she turns into a total stranger?

This book is CREEPY!!! Like really creepy. I don't really know how to describe this book other then CREEPY!!! If you decide to read this book, let me tell you to keep with it. I wouldn't really say that is hard to get into, but the characters make you want to throw the book out the window. It is really good so stay with it.

The writing is really simple and clean. I'm going to go on and talk about the characters since I can't really say much about anything else. Cara annoyed me a lot. She was just so weak and let a lot of people walk over her. Now, I'm very quiet and have been walked over many times in my life, but Cara was getting ridiculous. And she just needed to stand up for herself. This book would not work well if Cara was a stronger character, but it was still annoying. Zoe. Oh my she was scary! She was okay in the beginning. But soon after she showed up, she went crazy. And she scared me so much. Ethan, Cara's love interest, was so sweet, and I feel so bad for him.

This book was very surprising. I was never quite sure what was going on and what was going to happen. I was about to give up on reading it because the characters were so annoying and the plot seemed like it was going nowhere. I was about to give it one star until the end, then I had to give it four. That's a big leap. Haha. Keep with it because it does get better (honestly, at the very end when everything makes sense).
