Running away brings Rhine and Gabriel right into a trap, in the form of a twisted carnival whose ringmistress keeps watch over a menagerie of girls. Just as Rhine uncovers what plans await her, her fortune turns again. With Gabriel at her side, Rhine travels through an environment as grim as the one she left a year ago - surroundings that mirror her own feelings of fear and hopelessness. The two are determined to get to Manhattan, to relative safety with Rhine’s twin brother, Rowan. But the road there is long and perilous - and in a world where young women only live to age twenty and young men die at twenty-five, time is precious. Worse still, they can’t seem to elude Rhine’s father-in-law, Vaughn, who is determined to bring Rhine back to the mansion...by any means necessary. In the sequel to Lauren DeStefano’s harrowing Wither, Rhine must decide if freedom is worth the price - now that she has more to lose than ever.

I bought this book when it first came out, but I could not really get into it. I really regret not reading it sooner. It was so good. It was a great sequel, and if you have read Wither, you must continue on.

Fever started off where Wither left off. Rhine and Gabriel find themselves in a crazy "carnival" with an insane ringmistress. Like seriously, this women is crazy. I really hate this part of the book because it is so creepy. I was interesting, but still very creepy. Fever moves very fast. It is crazy drama. Rhine and Gabriel must run from several dangers along the way. From the carnival to New York and other crazy places along the way, this book definitely keeps you reading. It is crazy! And the end!!! Ahhhhhh....I can't believe it.

The characters are the same. They do grow a lot in this book, which is wonderful. Gabriel is stronger. You see more of him. He is protective and not weak at all. I felt that he was a little weak in Wither, but he really changed in this one. Rhine becomes stronger as well. She is protective of Gabriel, and she continues to be brave as her troubles become worst. Rhine did get whining and stupid in some parts, but most times she was strong for her situation. The returning characters annoyed me a little more. Linden was not understanding. When Vaughn reappears, he is just as evil as the first book. He scares me. I'm glad I'm not a character in this book.

This is a wonderful trilogy that you should check out if you haven't already. I cannot wait to read Sever which comes out in February 2013. I need to know what happens next because...THE END!!! It's insane. :)

  1. Great review! I love these books, they're so intense and different from other dystopians! The situations like that carnival and the girls being sold as wives really make you think about what girls go through in real life in being sold or forced into prostitution. I can't wait for the last book :]
